I think this post is going to be all about movies, for no particular reason.

I just saw Knocked Up. I don't get it. Can someone explain to me why everyone is all apeshit over this movie? I think I laughed twice. And it was 2 hours plus.

As a contrast, I also saw Michael Clayton and Eastern Promises this week and they were both very good. The latter has a few very violent scenes but they're not gratuitous and it really is only two or three scenes.

Oh and they're filming the new Coen brothers movie with Brad Pitt, George Clooney, and John Malkovich outside my apartment. Okay, a block away. They sort of took over the entire block, including bringing in a bunch of cars with DC license plates (I guess that's where it takes place), changing the street signs, and kicking some people out of their apartments (I'm sure they were handsomely paid). Coooool.

Big news! I've been working on a new business venture for the last few months. It's a fantasy sports website and we finally launched it a few days ago. Check it out here: Instant Fantasy Sports. If you have friends who play fantasy sports, please let them know about the site and help me spread the word. Thaaaanks.

My parents and I recently went to Hong Kong (to visit my brother and his family) and Viet Nam (to visit a college friend of my mother's). I don't like traveling per se but it was awesome to spend time with my family and see my nieces and nephew who are totally awesome. I had fun on this trip. Click here to see the cutest little girls in the world and to see how much Hong Kong looks like New York if you ignore the mountains in the background.

The other news is that I have not played a hand of poker in a month. And boy is that news, considering I played something like 80 days straight around the end of last year. Poker used to be my life. I feel like that phrase is used as hyperbole a lot, but I'm not exaggerating. Poker was my life, in lieu of ever leaving my apartment or ever talking to any other humans (IM and email do not count). This has changed in the past month, when I have been seen both leaving my apartment and talking to other humans. SOMETIMES CONCURRENTLY.

I feel great. And just in time for spring.

Okay! You all had great book suggestions. Now I am looking for some movies to watch on the flight. Again, I think 'Borat' is more appropriate than 'An Inconvenient Truth' as far as entertaining me and passing the time. Ready....go!

I am going to Hong Kong in two days. This trip involves two 17 hour flights. I need some good page-turning fiction. I like Michael Crichton/John Grisham/Tom Clancy stuff but I hardly read any fiction. I think semi-disposable fiction will keep my interest better than the philosophical non-fiction I usually read.

Okay, ideas?

I'm seriously considering playing much less poker going forward. My results have been terrible for about six months now and poker is not fun at all for me right now. So, what the hell should I do with myself? I have enough money that I don't need to find an income right away, though I will have to find one at some point. I would love to start or invest in a business but I don't have a creative idea for one and opening a dry cleaner or a deli doesn't interest me.

Many people have suggested that I go back to school but I'm wary. Everyone I know who has gone back to school hates it. I'm lazy, never worked very hard in school, and grad school requires more and harder work than the school I'm used to. Grad school is expensive. I also feel like a lot of my peers have gone back to school simply because they don't know what to do with themselves. This does not seem a good reason to me. If I ever go back, it will be with a specific post-school career in mind, and I don't have one of those right now.

So what's out there for a smart 27 year-old with a college degree and not much work experience? I like numbers and games and competition and problem solving (...and puppies and rainbows, when did this turn into a personal ad?).

Thanks kids.

Congress is in the midst of passing a bill that makes it illegal for online gambling companies to serve US citizens. It was added, as I understand it, to a bill on port safety. I don't really understand it but a lot of people are predicting doom and gloom. I wonder what I will do if I can't make a living playing poker online? Back to Virgin? Hrm...

I saw the Al Franken movie tonight. It was funny but rambling. I like Mr. Franken and I certainly come down on his side of the debate against O'Reilly, Coulter, et al. I can't help but think that I'm missing something though. I just can never get very worked up about politics. Oh indifference.

I went to the gym yesterday. I've been meaning to go forever and finally did it. Go me. I want to go every other day so tomorrow marks the next trip.

I sort of want to be in a band again. But finding a good band to be in is notoriously hard and I am notoriously lazy. Hrm.

Earlier this week my father and I took my nephew around to some northeastern colleges. Man, that made me miss college. College was the BEST. If you're in college right now, stop reading my stupid journal and go hang out with your classmates. You'll miss them when you graduate.

I need to go to the dentist. Can anyone refer me to a nice, gentle dentist anywhere in the city? I hate the dentist so so much.

I just took the better part of a shower with my glasses on. You know, the part before you get your face wet. ...

I'm about to go join a gym. No, really.

What are you all up to?

Jodi started her new job today. It's going to be great for her. It also means that from 8-6 weekdays she's not going to be around. Since we moved here we've spent so much time together, so it's an adjustment. But I always need some alone time, so it won't be so bad.

I stopped listening to music for a really long time but I'm slowly getting back into now. Sooooo what's everyone been listening to the two years I've been away? =)

Since we moved, my life has pretty much been poker, Jodi, and baseball. It's a good life. But I'm looking to branch out. I gotta start doing some sort of exercise. I just can't bring myself to exercise for the purpose of exercising though, so running, walking, biking, rollerblading, etc. are out. I would love to find a sport or other competitive acticity that I could do a few times a week, but haven't found the right one yet. Maybe I'll get some sort of exercise machine. I think I would make myself do that every day if I could do it in front of the tv. I'm also thinking about looking for some people to play music with. My last band experience didn't end too well and I fear I might have the same problem again in the future. Bands by their nature have to go on tour and I hate the touring experience. Hmm.

I'm going to go eat some breakfast (yes it's 3:10 PM shut up), pay some bills, cancel the Tivo service that we're not using since we got the DVR, and post in my poker blog. Jodi should be home soon after I do all that and we're going out to dinner tonight to celebrate her new job. We're going to try this place on Smith St. called 'Chance.' Supposedly it's French/Chinese fusion or something. We shall see.

Crap, somebody has to tell me when these holidays come up. They don't affect my life in any way, so I just miss them. Got up this morning and went out to take care of something at the bank in Manhattan only to remember Memorial Day after swiping my metrocard. At least I didn't get on the train. Somebody throw me a bone, please.

Though I'm afraid Ree may be offended, this is too hilarious not to pass on.

The World Series of Poker starts Friday in Vegas and I'll be there. Best time of the year for people in my profession. Woo.

This week I sold my futon, my air conditioner, some guitar stuff, old computer monitors, my CD rack, and other things I'm forgetting. If you ever want to sell shit, post it on craigslist and put up a little sign in your building. Works like a charm.

Last night I sold all my CDs. If you told me a couple years ago that I would ever sell all my CDs ("...that I would ever play poker for a living," for that matter), I would have laughed.

Today I ordered this and this too. I love gadgets.

Monday morning I move all the stuff I didn't sell to the new apartment. Wish me luck.

I'm selling this stuff. I'll give you a good deal if you're my friend. I'm also selling all my CDs sometime this week, so if you want to buy any of those, let me know.

Jodi and I found an apartment here. I'm moving in sometime later this month and she will join me in July after she's done up in Millbrook. It's a one bedroom with a big living space and a big bedroom. It's the top floor of an old Brooklyn brownstone, so the building isn't in fantastic shape, but the apartment itself is great.

I've had two really good months at work and am on my way to a third in May. Looking forward to spending half of June and another week in July in Vegas for the World Series of Poker. Between now and then I'll be packing, moving, and settling in to the new place. Hope you can all come see it when we get moved in.

Tonight I won my seat in the $10,000 main event at the World Series of Poker, held in July in Las Vegas. I put a lot of time and money and effort into qualifying. It feels good.

Tonight I also finished the second season of the West Wing, which has got to be one of the best seasons of television ever.

Tomorrow I'm going to my fifth baseball game of the young season with my friends whose company I relish.

On Saturday, the girl I love is coming down to the city and we're going to keep looking for the apartment that will be our home.

So I'm doing well.

I don't normally do these things that everyone puts in their journal, but this one seems to be win-win. "Reply and I'll tell you something I like about you." Then spread it to your journal, etc etc, you know the drill.

I'm moving out of my apartment on June 1 and Jodi and I are getting a place together. If you know anyone looking for an apartment in the city, let me know.

Otherwise things are the same. Going to lots of ballgames, working, looking for an apartment, and getting ready to spend most of June and July in Vegas for the World Series of Poker.

My health insurance from Virgin is finally running out and I need to get something new. Who knows anything about this? I'd like to be covered in case something major happens but I can pay for doctor's visits, prescriptions, dental, vision, etc. on my own.

This week I left the apartment and went to the city EVERY DAY. This is a big accomplishment for me. Also I have a newfound affinity for track jackets. That is all.
