I think this post is going to be all about movies, for no particular reason.

I just saw Knocked Up. I don't get it. Can someone explain to me why everyone is all apeshit over this movie? I think I laughed twice. And it was 2 hours plus.

As a contrast, I also saw Michael Clayton and Eastern Promises this week and they were both very good. The latter has a few very violent scenes but they're not gratuitous and it really is only two or three scenes.

Oh and they're filming the new Coen brothers movie with Brad Pitt, George Clooney, and John Malkovich outside my apartment. Okay, a block away. They sort of took over the entire block, including bringing in a bunch of cars with DC license plates (I guess that's where it takes place), changing the street signs, and kicking some people out of their apartments (I'm sure they were handsomely paid). Coooool.

Big news! I've been working on a new business venture for the last few months. It's a fantasy sports website and we finally launched it a few days ago. Check it out here: Instant Fantasy Sports. If you have friends who play fantasy sports, please let them know about the site and help me spread the word. Thaaaanks.

My parents and I recently went to Hong Kong (to visit my brother and his family) and Viet Nam (to visit a college friend of my mother's). I don't like traveling per se but it was awesome to spend time with my family and see my nieces and nephew who are totally awesome. I had fun on this trip. Click here to see the cutest little girls in the world and to see how much Hong Kong looks like New York if you ignore the mountains in the background.

The other news is that I have not played a hand of poker in a month. And boy is that news, considering I played something like 80 days straight around the end of last year. Poker used to be my life. I feel like that phrase is used as hyperbole a lot, but I'm not exaggerating. Poker was my life, in lieu of ever leaving my apartment or ever talking to any other humans (IM and email do not count). This has changed in the past month, when I have been seen both leaving my apartment and talking to other humans. SOMETIMES CONCURRENTLY.

I feel great. And just in time for spring.

Okay! You all had great book suggestions. Now I am looking for some movies to watch on the flight. Again, I think 'Borat' is more appropriate than 'An Inconvenient Truth' as far as entertaining me and passing the time. Ready....go!

I am going to Hong Kong in two days. This trip involves two 17 hour flights. I need some good page-turning fiction. I like Michael Crichton/John Grisham/Tom Clancy stuff but I hardly read any fiction. I think semi-disposable fiction will keep my interest better than the philosophical non-fiction I usually read.

Okay, ideas?

I'm seriously considering playing much less poker going forward. My results have been terrible for about six months now and poker is not fun at all for me right now. So, what the hell should I do with myself? I have enough money that I don't need to find an income right away, though I will have to find one at some point. I would love to start or invest in a business but I don't have a creative idea for one and opening a dry cleaner or a deli doesn't interest me.

Many people have suggested that I go back to school but I'm wary. Everyone I know who has gone back to school hates it. I'm lazy, never worked very hard in school, and grad school requires more and harder work than the school I'm used to. Grad school is expensive. I also feel like a lot of my peers have gone back to school simply because they don't know what to do with themselves. This does not seem a good reason to me. If I ever go back, it will be with a specific post-school career in mind, and I don't have one of those right now.

So what's out there for a smart 27 year-old with a college degree and not much work experience? I like numbers and games and competition and problem solving (...and puppies and rainbows, when did this turn into a personal ad?).

Thanks kids.

Congress is in the midst of passing a bill that makes it illegal for online gambling companies to serve US citizens. It was added, as I understand it, to a bill on port safety. I don't really understand it but a lot of people are predicting doom and gloom. I wonder what I will do if I can't make a living playing poker online? Back to Virgin? Hrm...

I saw the Al Franken movie tonight. It was funny but rambling. I like Mr. Franken and I certainly come down on his side of the debate against O'Reilly, Coulter, et al. I can't help but think that I'm missing something though. I just can never get very worked up about politics. Oh indifference.

I went to the gym yesterday. I've been meaning to go forever and finally did it. Go me. I want to go every other day so tomorrow marks the next trip.

I sort of want to be in a band again. But finding a good band to be in is notoriously hard and I am notoriously lazy. Hrm.

Earlier this week my father and I took my nephew around to some northeastern colleges. Man, that made me miss college. College was the BEST. If you're in college right now, stop reading my stupid journal and go hang out with your classmates. You'll miss them when you graduate.

i went to see the band rainer maria last night. i listened to them on my ipod today at the gym. when i walked out of the gym i ran into caitlin, the singer, walking out of the health food store next door. i passed her an ear bud so she could listen to herself sing.
